The Governor of Vayots Dzor province, Ararat Grigoryan, received Iran’s Consul General in Armenia, Morteza Abedin Varamin and a delegation led by him on October 10. They spoke about the consequences of the 13-14 September 2022 aggression by Azerbaijan for the province. Ararat Grigoryan thanked for the attention shown to the region, noting that Vayots Dzor has always highly valued the interstate relations with good traditions of interaction between two friendly peoples, trying to contribute to the strengthening of that friendship within the framework of decentralized cooperation. Consul General Morteza Abedin Varamin in his turn noted that thanks to the existing friendship and the work done, all the bases for cooperation have been created, which make it possible to expand the geography of the implemented programs, including new areas of cooperation. Governor Ararat Grigoryan presented to the Iranian side the humanitarian situation created in the region as a result of Azerbaijan's ethnic cleansing policy, as well as the efforts made by the state to provide support to people forcibly displaced from Nagorno Karabakh. In order to get acquainted with the possibilities of cooperation in the fields of education and culture, the parties visited the Syunik Development NGO, where they met with the leader of the Diocese of Vayots Dzor, His Grace Archbishop Abraham Mkrtchyan. The guests were introduced to the large-scale activities carried out by the NGO in the region in both education, agriculture and charity sectors, referring to the possible directions of cooperation. Within the framework of the visit, the parties visited Yeghegnadzor Geology Museum, famous for its unique exhibits and rich heritage, where the innovative programs implemented by the museum and the successes recorded in that field were presented to the guests.
