At least five political forces ran in the elections of the Yerevan Council of Elders with northern capital and Kremlin management. This was announced by Artak Zeynalyan, head of the Republic Faction of the new Yerevan Council of Elders, at a press conference Tuesday. "They [the aforesaid political forces] were pursuing a goal by taking power in the Yerevan Council of Elders. And there were also forces openly declaring that they saw Armenia in the status of Tatarstan, and the others supported it directly or indirectly. In case of new elections [of the Yerevan Council of Elders], that risk would have been a lot more realistic and real. And that is why we do not allow Armenia, [capital] Yerevan to be shaken and exposed to the risk of becoming a governorate [of Russia]," Zeynalyan added.
