Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on Monday received Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy, Mahdi Safari, who arrived in Baku to participate in the 27th Meeting of the Council of Ministers (COM) of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO). "The parties discussed a number of matters on the agenda of Azerbaijani-Iranian relations. There was an exchange of views on the implementation of the North-South transport corridor and the implementation of communication links between the economic region of Eastern Zangezur [(Zangazur)] and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic," said the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan. Bayramov and Safari noted the growth of the dynamics of trade and economic relations between the two countries, and lauded the activities of the Azerbaijani-Iranian intergovernmental commission. "At the meeting, there was also an exchange of views on the latest processes taking place in the region... (...). It was noted that Azerbaijan has taken appropriate measures for the reintegration of the Armenian residents [of Nagorno-Karabakh] within the framework of the Constitution and the legislation of Azerbaijan, and is interested in establishing a strong peace with Armenia based on the principle of respect for one's own sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the Azerbaijan MFA added. During the meeting, views were exchanged on other regional matters, too.
