The creation of the Meghri route will be a very important factor for the overall stabilization in the South Caucasus, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin told RBC. He reminded that on June 2, when the last meeting of the tripartite working group took place, the parties made significant progress in moving towards unblocking regional transport communications. "But we believe that the unblocking of transport communications between Armenia and Azerbaijan; that is, the creation of the Meghri route, which will connect the main territory of Azerbaijan with Nakhichevan," Galuzin added. In order to clarify whether he meant the "Zangezur corridor," the Russian diplomat noted that "after all, it is about the railway passing through the territory of Armenia, so I allowed myself to use the name ‘Meghri route.’" "Yes, in Azerbaijan it is called the ‘Zangezur corridor.’ So that the wording is convenient for everyone, let's say this: we are actively helping our Azerbaijani and Armenian partners to reach an agreement. We believe that this agreement will be a very important factor for the general stabilization in Transcaucasia. It will contribute to the economic development of all Transcaucasian states, as in this case Armenia will have the opportunity to become a transport and logistics hub, to strengthen and expand its transport links with Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Russia. "Azerbaijan will have the opportunity to have uninterrupted rhythmic transport connections between the two parts of the country. And the overall stabilization of the situation in Transcaucasia will serve to strengthen the foundations of trust between Armenia and Azerbaijan for the future. Therefore, we are determined to continue promoting these consultations within the framework of the tripartite working group," said the Russian deputy FM.
