Israel's presence in the Caucasus region does not contribute to security. This was stated by the official representative of the Iranian foreign ministry, Nasser Kanaani, Tasnim reported. "The Zionist regime [(i.e. Israel)] pursues its interests of creating instability in Islamic lands. This is a clear position that we expressed in bilateral and multilateral meetings, especially with those countries that, unfortunately, have tried to establish relations [with Israel], not paying attention to the changeable state of the regime," Kanaani noted. According to him, the recent visit of the Azerbaijani presidential representative in charge of special assignments to Iran corresponds to the development of relations between the two countries and the recent events in the Caucasus region. "That trip became a continuation of the efforts of both countries towards of the development of bilateral relations. The negotiations went well, and the Azerbaijani side expressed its point of view. There is a consensus that the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran will be able to resume its activities within the framework of the negotiations," Kanaani noted, adding that Iran is ready to help Azerbaijan and Armenia resolve their issues. The representative of the Iranian foreign ministry informed also about the holding of joint military exercises between Iran and Azerbaijan in the Caspian Sea. "I don't have any detailed information. Mechanisms have already been created within the framework of joint cooperation between the two countries. In terms of military cooperation, we had good and effective meetings. If necessary, the General Staff of the [Iranian] Armed Forces will provide additional clarifications," Kanaani said.
