News - Armenia deputy premier: EU will continue providing additional support in all necessary directions

A delegation led by the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarcic, is in Armenia. And after the meeting at the Armenian government, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan and Lenarcic made a statement. "We talked with the Commissioner about the main problems that have arisen in relation to the humanitarian assistance to forcibly displaced people from Nagorno-Karabakh as a result of continued use of force by Azerbaijan and the implementation of Armenophobic policy," said Khachatryan. The Armenian deputy PM added that they talked also about the assessment of the urgent needs—including healthcare, social, psychological, and financial issues—of the more than 100,000 Armenians who were displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh and found refuge in Armenia,. "The Armenian government lauds the quick response that the EU and its member states have shown and continue to show in addressing the priority needs of our displaced compatriots. "With the commissioner, we highlighted the tasks of forming a single platform for cooperation to coordinate the efforts of the Armenian government and the EU regarding large-scale humanitarian activities, directing the received humanitarian assistance to the needs of forcibly displaced people, and increasing the efficiency of our actions in this format," said Khachatryan. He added that as a priority, the importance of assessing the short-, medium-, and long-term needs of the forcibly displaced people was highlighted. "During the discussion, we came to an agreement that the EU will continue to provide increased support in all necessary directions, taking into account the great experience it has in crisis management issues. "We express a conviction that the support provided by the EU will considerably contribute to the fact that the programs being implemented by the Armenian government will resolve with maximum efficiency the priority needs of our forcibly displaced compatriots," said the Armenian deputy premier.
