About 3,600 people forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh took shelter in Armenia’s Shirak province

by Lilit Oct. 6, 2023

Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Gnel Sanosyan, held a consultation on October 6 in Shirak province to discuss the situation of forcibly displaced people from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). The meeting addressed various aspects of support and assistance for these displaced individuals. During the meeting, Minister Sanosyan expressed gratitude to the governor, community leaders, and their teams for their effective efforts in relocating the forcibly displaced citizens during the initial phase. He emphasized that this phase can be considered completed, and the focus should now shift to gathering data about the locations of the displaced individuals, their specific needs, and whether they have access to essentials such as food and other necessities. Additionally, the minister stressed the importance of ensuring that children are attending school. Special attention was also given to individuals who require special care, and efforts were made to inform the displaced citizens about government support programs, including one-time financial assistance of 100,000 drams, the 40+10 thousand drams program, and the procedures for accessing these benefits. Volunteers were identified as a potential resource to assist with various tasks as needed. During the consultation, Shirak province Governor Mushegh Muradyan provided a report on the ongoing activities in the region, highlighting that approximately 3,600 forcibly displaced individuals have sought refuge in Shirak province at the moment.
