News - Baku snapps at European Parliament, says Azerbaijan asserts no obligations to EU

In response to the resolution issued by the European Parliament, the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of Azerbaijan has adopted a statement, which was presented by Milli Majlis member Tural Ganjaliyev, as reported by Azerbaijani media. Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova characterized the European Parliament's resolution as "slanderous, biased, and prejudiced." She perceived it as part of a larger agenda, attributing these actions to France, stating, "This is further evidence of the European Parliament's double standards policy. Accusing Baku of ethnic cleansing represents a clear display of political irresponsibility. It is noteworthy that the document was primarily prepared and brought for discussion upon the initiative of a group of French representatives. Today, Paris has unmistakably taken the side of the aggressor. Attempts to exert pressure on Azerbaijan are futile, and Baku will remain steadfast in its course," reassured Gafarova. The statement from the Milli Majlis protests and condemns the resolution, underscoring that "Azerbaijan bears no obligations to the European Parliament." It is worth noting that European Parliament members have called upon the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy to suspend negotiations on updating the partnership agreement with Azerbaijan until Azerbaijan demonstrates a genuine willingness to respect the rights and security of the Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh. And if Azerbaijan fails, parliamentarians have urged the EU and its member states to contemplate suspending the implementation of the visa facilitation agreement and reducing cooperation with Azerbaijan in other areas.
