News - Lithuania parliament vice-speaker: Purpose of our visit is to deepen cooperation, help Armenia on its chosen path

I appreciate your visit to Armenia as a step of support in such a difficult period for us. I am sure you are aware of the situation created after the recent military operations carried out by Azerbaijan. We are grateful to the Government of the Republic of Lithuania for providing humanitarian aid to the Armenians displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, and we also emphasize Armenia-EU mutual cooperation. Chair of the Republic of Armenia National Assembly (RA NA) Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, Sargis Khandanyan, stated this while welcoming a delegation led by the deputy speaker of the Seimas (parliament) of Lithuania, Radvile Morkunaite-Mikuleniene, to the NA. He valued the cooperation of the parliaments of the two countries and the close work of the Friendship Groups. The delegation led by the deputy speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania includes the chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Seimas, Zygimantas Pavilionis; and the deputy chair of the Committee on European Affairs, Marius Matijosaitis, the NA informs. Morkunaite-Mikuleniene thanked for the warm reception, and lauded the dynamically developing relations formed between the two countries. “The purpose of our visit is to deepen cooperation and help Armenia on its chosen path. We know what cruelty from neighbors means. It is necessary to prevent the repetition of history in every possible way,” she said. The members of the Friendship Group, drawing parallels with the situation in Lithuania in the 1990s, highlighted the importance of ensuring security and peace in the region. Presenting details of the current situation, the matter of imposing sanctions on Azerbaijan was underscored. Also, the MPs reflected on the peace agenda, as well as the clear plans and steps aimed at economically developing Armenia.
