News - The ECtHR rejects the claimant's appeal in Gurbanov v. Gurbanov. Armenia’s case

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has denied the complaint of the applicant, Salman Gurbanov, in the case of "Gurbanov v. Armenia." Salman Gurbanov is a citizen of Azerbaijan residing in Baku. His 22-year-old son, a serviceman in the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, was killed during clashes on the border of Azerbaijan and Armenia on December 29, 2016. The son's body was discovered in the Tavush region of Armenia and returned to his family in February 2017. The applicant's complaint was based on violations of Articles 8 (right to respect for private and family life) and 14 (prohibition of discrimination) of the European Convention on Human Rights. He argued that he and his family faced inhuman treatment, were unable to bury the body in accordance with religious traditions, and were denied effective legal remedies. The applicant contended that the refusal to return the body was discriminatory. However, the ECtHR rejected the applicant's complaint, ruling that there had been no violations of the aforementioned articles.
