News - Hikmet Hajiyev: Azerbaijan has no demands from Armenia, there are demands from France

Azerbaijan's decision not to participate in the five-way meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Granada, Spain, with the participation of the leaders of the European Union, France, and Germany does not mean that Baku refuses negotiations with Yerevan. Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the president of Azerbaijan and head of the foreign policy department of the president's office, wrote about this on social networks, Azerbaijani media reported. According to him, Azerbaijan's decision not to participate in the aforesaid meeting is "Due to France's biased actions and militarization policy that seriously undermine regional peace and stability in the South Caucasus and put at risk European Union's overall policy towards the region." Also, Hajiyev notes that regardless of Azerbaijan's insistence, no agreement was reached towards participation of Turkey, as a regional country, in this meeting. "In some international media resources, it is incorrect to present this as Azerbaijan’s refusal for talks with Armenia," he added, emphasizing that Azerbaijan supported Spain's participation in this format as the host party.
