News - Mohammad Hossein Bagheri: Iran ready to send observers to Armenia-Azerbaijan border

Iran is ready to send observers to the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the chief of staff of the Armed Forces of Iran, Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, said during a meeting with the Armenia’s Secretary of the Security Council, Armen Grigoryan.According to the Iranian Mehr news agency, he said that Iran is ready to contribute to the reduction of tensions in the Caucasus region. Saying that the events in the South Caucasus affect the security of the region, Bagheri noted that the continuation of tension does goes against the interests of Armenia, Azerbaijan and other countries of the region. Referring to Iran's readiness to send observers to the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Bagheri emphasized that the improvement of the defense capabilities of any country should not be driven by aggressive goals or intentions. "Peace and tranquility in the region correspond to the interests of all countries, and the security of the region must be ensured through the countries of the region, and the presence of extra-regional forces contradicts peace," he said. Speaking about the recently held US military exercises in Armenia, General Bagheri said that the presence of extra-regional forces would provoke instability in the region.
