Decreased inflow of displaced persons: Over 100,625 forced displaced from Karabakh in Armenia

by Lilit Oct. 3, 2023

As of today, October 3, Armenia has received over 100,625 citizens who were forcibly displaced from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). These figures were announced during a press conference by Nazeli Baghdasaryan, the spokesperson for the Prime Minister of Armenia. Baghdasaryan noted that the influx of forced displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh has significantly decreased, with 21,195 vehicles crossing the Hakari bridge. Out of those who have entered Armenia, 91,924 individuals are already registered, with temporary housing provided to half of them. On September 19, Azerbaijan launched a large-scale offensive on Artsakh. As a result of Azerbaijani aggression, Artsakh suffered over 200 fatalities and more than 400 injuries in a single day. On September 20, the government of Artsakh accepted a ceasefire proposal. Representatives from Stepanakert and Baku held meetings in Yevlakh on September 21, Ivanyan on September 25, and again in Yevlakh on September 29. Forced displacement of Karabakh residents began on September 24. On September 28, President of Artsakh Samvel Shahramanyan signed a decree stating that the Republic of Artsakh would cease to exist from January 1, 2024.
