The selfless and professional actions of Russian peacekeepers helped to avoid a larger number of casualties during the escalation of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stated, TASS reports. "I thank our guys, the Russian peacekeepers, for their selfless and professional actions, which helped to avoid a larger number of casualties. All-round medical assistance was provided to the injured and the needy by the peacekeeping forces," he said during a consultation with the commanders of the Russian Armed Forces. According to Shoigu, with assistance by the Russian peacekeeping contingent, a block modular city with modern equipment, a mobile infirmary with the capacity of surgical assistance, as well as a surgical module with an intensive care unit were set up in Nagorno-Karabakh. "Doctors with various specialties joined the special medical squad," the Russian defense minister emphasized. Sergei Shoigu informed that more than 98,000 civilians of Nagorno-Karabakh, including 32,000 children, were evacuated to Armenia with the assistance of the Russian peacekeeping contingent.
