Armenia suggests emergency passport services for Nagorno-Karabakh residents without passports

by Lilit Oct. 2, 2023

Armen Ghazaryan, the head of the migration and citizenship service of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs, announced that residents of Nagorno-Karabakh who do not possess passports will receive expedited service at passport departments. As of 15:00, the total number of registered individuals that moved to Armenia from Nagorno-Karabakh is 89,167, with 46,139 being female and 43,028 male. Over 10,700 citizens are aged 65 and above, while approximately 27,000 are children under 18. Ghazaryan also provided a breakdown of the regions from which the displaced residents of Nagorno-Karabakh mainly arrived. The majority, over 45,000 individuals, came from Stepanakert, with more than 15,000 from the Martuni region, over 13,000 from the Martakert region, and over 10,000 from the Askeran region. Among those registered, there were 230 pregnant women and more than 2,000 individuals with disabilities. Ghazaryan urged displaced Nagorno-Karabakh residents to register at humanitarian centers, emphasizing that there are still more than 10,000 unregistered citizens. He also noted that district administrations in Yerevan are facilitating this registration process. Regarding citizens without passports or those who have lost them, Ghazaryan advised them to visit passport services and submit an application for lost identification documents to initiate the process of restoration. He also mentioned that, despite Yerevan having fully transitioned to an online queue system for passport services, displaced Nagorno-Karabakh residents will receive expedited service outside of this system.
