Jurgen Trittin, the foreign policy representative of the Green faction of the German Bundestag (parliament), has called on Europe to help the Armenian refugees of Nagorno-Karabakh and to take measures against Azerbaijan to prevent the continuation of military aggression against Armenia. He announced this to the Rheinische Post newspaper. "It is necessary to stop the [natural] gas contracts [with Azerbaijan] and double the EU mission. We must not turn our backs on the 100,000 refugees of Nagorno-Karabakh. Otherwise, Azerbaijan will continue its ‘work’ in Armenia. "Germany should be the leader here, and we have proved that it is possible. It is now necessary to double the EU mission to monitor the situation on the ground. Human rights are non-negotiable. And I fear that Azerbaijan will not stop until Europe, especially now, understands that it has to pay dearly for it. "The blind policy of the President of the European Commission, [Ursula] von der Leyen, only inspired the Azerbaijani president Aliyev; it was a big mistake. Unfortunately, there are EU countries, such as Italy and Hungary, which block tougher measures, such as sanctions against those guilty in Azerbaijan," Trittin said.
