News - 600 forcibly displaced persons from Karabakh accommodated in Armenia’s Vaik

The community of Vaik in Armenia has been at the forefront of providing assistance to forcibly displaced individuals from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). As the flow of displaced persons continues to increase daily, local authorities do their best to accommodate those in need. Mkhitar Martirosyan, the head of Vaik enlarged community, told NEWS.am that a dedicated center has been operating in Vaik for five days now, serving as a vital point of assistance for the displaced population. He mentioned that as of the previous day, approximately 15,000 people had registered at the center, highlighting the scale of the humanitarian challenge. The municipality of Vaik has already provided housing for 600 displaced persons. Upon arrival, individuals are registered by the Migration Service, and they are offered placements in various regions where they may have friends or acquaintances. The community is working diligently to facilitate these relocations. Martirosyan acknowledged that there are currently no vacant houses in Vaik community due to the high demand for shelter. However, they are actively searching for available properties, even if they need to be rented, to accommodate more displaced individuals. Their commitment remains unwavering, as they strive to ensure suitable living conditions for those in their care. “We have houses in rural areas. The conditions in some houses are not so good, but we have promised to do everything to ensure the conditions for people's stay.”
