Russian MFA: Armenia's ratification of Rome Statute will negatively affect Armenian-Russian relations.

by Lilit Sept. 28, 2023

Armenia's decision to ratify the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) will have the most negative consequences on bilateral relations, the Russian Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti. "The Armenian partners were informed from the beginning about the inadmissibility of the ratification of the Rome Statute of the ICC by Armenia given this institution issued an "arrest warrant" to the top leadership of Russia," the Russian MFA said. Russia believes that the decision of the Armenian authorities "will have the most negative consequences on bilateral relations". "The thesis put forward by the representatives of Armenia that joining the ICC will not have any effect on Russian-Armenian relations is not true. At the very least, it is difficult to imagine the visit of the Russian leadership to the republic, especially when the deputies of the ruling party call for the arrest of Vladimir Putin at the request of the "Femida" of The Hague,” the Foreign Ministry noted. The ministry noted "Moscow hopes that there will be sober-minded forces in the National Assembly of Armenia that will "oppose" the decision that is obviously "toxic" for Armenian-Russian relations."
