42,500 forcibly displaced persons enter Armenia from Karabakh as of 8am Wednesday

by Lilit Sept. 27, 2023

As of 8am Wednesday, 42,500 forcibly displaced persons have entered Armenia from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). Nazeli Baghdasaryan, spokesperson of the Armenian prime minister, informed this during a press conference Wednesday. According to her, 22,800 of them have already been registered. Baghdasaryan noted that after crossing the Kornidzor checkpoint in Armenia, these displaced persons are registered in the humanitarian centers of Armenia’s Goris or Vayk cities, after which their accommodation takes place. "Around 4,002 people have made use of the accommodation facilities provided by the state; this is a primary aid. For us at the moment the overriding goal is to provide the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh with a certain accommodation, then other places of residence will be provided. This is ten percent of Artsakh Armenians who entered Armenia," said the Armenian PM’s spox. The current Armenian state-provided accommodation—by Armenia’s provinces—of the forcibly displaced persons from Artsakh is as follows: Syunik - 1,465 Vayots Dzor - 810 Gegharkunik - 976 Tavush - 298 Armavir - 200 Aragatsotn - 30 Shirak - 203 Kotayk - 20 "The rest of the people wanted to organize their living matters on their own, but this does not mean that the [Armenian] state refuses to take further care [of them]," added the spokesperson of the Armenian  premier.
