News - Germany insists on having independent observers in Karabakh

Germany has stated that it insists on having independent observers in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) . Annalena Baerbock, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany, said that allowing independent observers to the region will show that Azerbaijan is serious about ensuring the security of ethnic Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh. "We are making efforts with our partners to send observers as quickly as possible," she said in her statement. "If Azerbaijan allows international observers, it will be proof that Azerbaijan takes seriously its obligation to ensure the safety and well-being of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians." Baerbock emphasized that the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh "must have the opportunity to stay in their homes and in their homeland without fear, with peace and dignity." But "thousands of people are so afraid for their lives that they see no other option but to move to Armenia." Baerbock said that Germany will increase, from 2 million euros to 5 million euros, the humanitarian aid it provides by way of the International Red Cross.
