In the face of significant challenges, a Vietnamese doctor, Mr. Trong, is making a substantial impact by providing medical services to Lao patients who journey more than 200 kilometers to access his care. In Laos, many healthcare facilities are hindered by a lack of modern medical equipment and a shortage of qualified healthcare professionals, driving patients to cross the border for better treatment prospects in Vietnam. The process of admitting cross-border patients is not without its complexities. Patients need to obtain valid travel permits for referrals, in line with regional regulations. The hospital works closely with border authorities, including border guards and customs, to ensure that patients, particularly those in critical conditions, can receive timely medical attention. The coordination involves meticulous planning, especially when patients are transferred across the border for treatment. When ambulances from Laos reach the border, the hospital collaborates with relevant personnel to facilitate the movement of patients to their facilities. The proximity of approximately 12 kilometers from the hospital to the border is carefully managed to expedite the transfer process. In the most severe cases, the hospital acts swiftly to ensure that patients are transported safely to receive necessary medical care. Mr. Trong expressed the hospital's commitment to minimal cost recovery, primarily covering fuel and transportation fees. He emphasizes that the core focus is on supporting the staff's dedicated efforts during patient transport, highlighting a compassionate approach to cross-border healthcare challenges.
