News - Bengals Prepare for Huntley Face-off as Ravens' Jackson Sits Out

The Cincinnati Bengals are gearing up for a strategic face-off at M&T Bank Stadium as they take on the Baltimore Ravens, who will be without their powerhouse quarterback, Lamar Jackson. Despite hopes for a comeback, Jackson has been officially ruled out due to a persistent high ankle sprain that has sidelined him for the past three games. This announcement, made well ahead of time, allows the Bengals some advantageous preparation against Ravens' backup Tyler Huntley. Huntley, stepping up in Jackson's absence, has shown commendable performance under pressure. In the last two weeks as the Ravens' starting quarterback, Huntley has notched a completion rate of 70.6%, passing for 429 yards with a solid 6.0 yards per attempt. With three touchdowns and no interceptions, Huntley has proven to be a reliable replacement, although the gap left by Jackson's unique ability as both a passer and a runner is palpable. Jackson's prowess on the field is underscored by his average of over four more yards per attempt compared to Huntley. The Bengals, no strangers to Huntley's capabilities, encountered him most recently in a dramatic 2022-23 AFC Wild Card game, clinching victory with a memorable defensive play that saw Sam Hubbard capitalize on Huntley's critical fumble near the goal line. This backdrop adds an extra layer of intrigue to the impending game. For the Ravens, the decision to rest Jackson reflects a cautious approach, acknowledging his 11-2 record as a starter against Cincinnati yet prioritizing his long-term health and readiness. Jackson, who participated in limited practice sessions, was eager for a return, but the coaching staff exercised prudence as his ankle remains precarious for the rigors of a full game. With this strategic shift now confirmed, the Bengals will adjust their game plan accordingly, aiming to counter the Ravens' current offensive dynamic. Meanwhile, Ravens' fans and the larger NFL community will keenly watch how Huntley, thrust into the spotlight once more, manages the high stakes. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. ET, with the excitement broadcasting live on CBS.
