Explosion in Artsakh results in 290 injuries, 7 fatalities, and 13 unidentified bodies

by Lilit Sept. 26, 2023

A catastrophic explosion rocked the Askeran region of Artsakh on September 25, resulting in widespread casualties. In the aftermath of the blast, 290 individuals with varying degrees of burns were admitted to multiple medical centers, including the "Republic Medical Center," "Arevik" Medical Center, Ivanyan Medical Center, and the aid station of Russian peacekeepers. Most patients were transferred to the "Republican Medical Center" for specialized care. Tragically, the incident has claimed the lives of seven patients who succumbed to their injuries while receiving medical attention. Dozens of individuals remain in critical condition, requiring intensive medical intervention. Furthermore, 13 bodies retrieved from the explosion site could not be immediately identified and have been forwarded to the "Bureau of Forensic Examination" for further investigation. Many individuals are considered missing after the explosion, as they sustained severe burns, making identification and verification processes challenging. Efforts are underway to ascertain their whereabouts and well-being. Under these trying circumstances, the dedicated doctors and medical staff in Stepanakert are working tirelessly to save lives. Despite the difficult and confined conditions, they are committed to providing the best possible care to the wounded.
