Authorities in Moldova have identified wreckage from a Russian Geran-2 drone near the village of Văleni, in the Cahul district, located close to the Ukrainian border. The discovery adds to a series of incidents involving Russian drones straying beyond Ukrainian territory amidst escalating regional tensions. Upon analysis, experts confirmed the debris to be from a Geran-2, the Russian adaptation of the Iranian-designed Shahed long-range attack drone. Moldovan police documented the remnants, which are set to undergo thorough forensic investigation to ascertain how the drone arrived in Moldovan territory and under what circumstances. Currently, there are no reports of injuries or infrastructural damage linked to the debris fallout. This incident follows a pattern of increased Russian aerial operations targeting Ukraine, particularly in the country’s southern regions bordering Moldova and Romania. Earlier in the year, Moldovan authorities retrieved another Russian drone near Tudora, found to be equipped with explosive materials.
