In a bid to streamline operations and strengthen its financial posture, Cracker Barrel has announced the sale of its Maple Street Biscuit Company assets and a significant real estate transaction. The Southern dining chain has divested 35 Maple Street Biscuit Company locations to Biscuit Belly LLC, a growing rival in the breakfast and biscuit market. This pivot will see Biscuit Belly triple its presence with plans to rebrand Maple Street locations over the coming months. Concurrently, Cracker Barrel has executed a sale-leaseback for 26 of its company-owned properties, yielding approximately $77 million, aimed at reducing corporate debt. CEO Julie Masino highlights this strategic maneuver as an essential step in returning focus to the flagship Cracker Barrel brand, enhancing long-term profitability, and ensuring shareholder value. With Maple Street contributing minimally to revenue, its sale is set to bolster Cracker Barrel's adjusted EBITDA by 2027, while resulting non-cash charges and costs will impact the immediate fiscal landscape. Despite recent challenges, including criticism over branding changes, Cracker Barrel appears committed to reshaping its portfolio to maintain competitive advantage and market resilience.
