Point Loma High Athletes Triumph in San Diego Section

by Lilit July 8, 2026

Point Loma High School athletes have achieved remarkable success in the San Diego Section across a variety of sports, underlining their talent and determination. Senior tennis standout Nick Lilov was recognized as the top player in the San Diego Section, a testament to his excellence on the court where he won the section singles championship with set scores of 6-4 and 6-0 at Balboa Tennis Club. This accolade makes him the fifth Pointer in history to achieve this honor. As a four-star recruit ranked No. 93 nationally, Lilov looks forward to continuing his athletic and academic career at UC San Diego this fall. His achievements have paved the way for his teammate, freshman Max Lawson, to join him on the esteemed first-team all-CIF list, establishing their dominance in high school tennis this season. In aquatics, senior McKenna Carroll was celebrated as the CIF Swimmer of the Year after her exceptional performance in winning three events at the section championships. She leads a group of talented swimmers that includes junior Alex Pletcher, who claimed victory in the 200 freestyle, securing his spot on the first-team CIF list. The Point Loma baseball team also shined, with senior catcher Hunter Reddeg being named among the first-team all-CIF players, reflecting the team’s strong performance throughout the season. In the realm of beach volleyball, junior Aurora Fernandez and senior Caroline Tadder were acknowledged for their contributions, highlighting the program's continued strength. Young talents such as sophomore Ella Poulin and freshman Remy Spangler were recognized for their excellence on the softball field, both earning first-team honors and underscoring the promising future of Point Loma's softball team. Several athletes earned second-team accolades, including junior baseball first baseman Wyatt Olson, and girls' softball catcher Avery MacPherson, along with outfielder Sienna Balistreri. The Pointers' athletic prowess has earned them a spot in the prestigious City Conference-ranked Western League, where they will compete against notable teams such as Cathedral Catholic, Lincoln, and Mission Bay. This elevation comes as a reward for their exemplary 10-0 season in 2025, as they aim to continue their legacy of sports excellence in upcoming competitions. Among their challenging non-league matchups are anticipated games against Ramona and Scripps Ranch.
