Europe's Largest 3D-Printed Housing is in France

by Lilit July 6, 2026

In a groundbreaking achievement, France has unveiled Europe's largest 3D-printed residential building in the city of Béziers. Known as ViliaSprint2, this innovative structure spans three floors and accommodates 12 social housing units. Remarkably, the entire building was completed in a record time of just 34 days, showcasing the immense potential of 3D printing technology in the construction industry. The ambitious project was spearheaded by Plurial Novilia, a key player in social housing, in collaboration with HOBO Architecture. The printing process was executed by PERI 3D Construction, utilizing the state-of-the-art COBOD BOD2 3D printer. This technological marvel stands as a testament to what can be achieved when architecture meets cutting-edge technology. One of the critical components of this initiative was reducing the carbon footprint typically associated with conventional construction methods. The ViliaSprint2 project features significantly lower cement consumption—about 50% less than traditional building processes—thereby contributing to a more sustainable environment. Moreover, energy-efficient solutions were integrated throughout the building, including advanced insulation and energy-resilient infrastructure. Notably, each apartment within ViliaSprint2 is designed to foster a high quality of life. The units offer ample living space complemented by private balconies, ensuring residents have access to outdoor environments year-round. These design elements are intended to promote healthier living conditions and community interaction. 3D printing in construction is often lauded for its ability to streamline processes, cut down labor costs, and reduce building time. The ViliaSprint2 building embodies these benefits, illustrating a future where rapid urban development is not only feasible but desirable. As populations continue to grow in urban centers, such technological advancements could play a pivotal role in addressing the global housing crisis by providing quick, affordable, and sustainable housing solutions. The project also served as a live case study for industry professionals, highlighting the practicality of implementing 3D printing on a large scale. With approximately 800 sqm of living space and numerous technical facets like sophisticated digital modeling software and automated 3D printing, the project educated numerous stakeholders on the intricacies of novel construction methodologies. As a trailblazing example of high-tech architecture, ViliaSprint2 sets a new benchmark for future developments. The collaboration among engineers, architects, and technology experts throughout this project demonstrates the transformative potential of interdisciplinary partnerships in the pursuit of urban sustainability and innovation. Industry watchers and local governments alike may draw inspiration from this model as they rethink the future of residential construction worldwide.
