

Patrick Ewing is making a significant comeback to NBA coaching by joining the Washington Wizards as an assistant coach, following a notable stint with the New York Knicks as an ambassador since 2024. Ewing's coaching journey began with the Wizards in 2002, and he amassed experience as an assistant with the Houston Rockets, Orlando Magic, and Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets. His first head coaching opportunity was with Georgetown where he served from 2017 to 2023. During his tenure at Georgetown, Ewing faced some challenging seasons, concluding with a record of 75-109, and only achieving one NCAA Tournament appearance in 2021. Despite the hurdles, his leadership skills and basketball insight were acknowledged, further solidifying his coaching reputation. Ewing is celebrated for his prolific NBA career, primarily with the New York Knicks, earning him Rookie of the Year in 1986 and securing a place in the NBA All-Star team 11 times. His outstanding performance and contributions to the sport were recognized with his induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008 as an individual and in 2010 as part of the iconic 1992 Olympics 'Dream Team.' His engagement with the Knicks recently culminated in witnessing their thrilling NBA championship win, marking the team's first title in over five decades. Ewing was present for the championship game in San Antonio, expressing a deep sense of fulfillment seeing his former team clinch the championship.
