The amendment, spearheaded by Dr. Albert Mohler, Jr., president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, received a robust 74.66% backing, well above the two-thirds majority needed for adoption. Known as the 'Truth and Unity Amendment', this new directive enshrines a clear prohibition against any cooperating churches within the SBC from endorsing, appointing, or accepting women to serve in roles such as pastor, elder, or overseer, or to perform functions like preaching to congregations.
