News - Коли жах реальності вразив зйомки 'Апокаліпсис сьогодні'

The chaotic production of 'Apocalypse Now' nearly featured an element more ghoulish than anyone could have scripted—a group of human corpses. Co-producer Gray Frederickson initially scoffed at whispers of such macabre props being used on set, dismissing them as fanciful rumors. Yet, one casual conversation with a prop technician shattered this disbelief. Tensions escalated when Martin Sheen's spouse raised concerns about dead rats on the temple set intended for an authentic atmosphere, as explained by production designer Dean Tavoularis. But it was another's ominous remark about dead bodies that prompted a troubling discovery. Curiosity led Frederickson to the prop area, shockingly revealing cadavers laid out, merely steps from where cast and crew dined. An entirely surreal turn saw law enforcement arriving to seize passports and probe the origin of these bodies. The supposed supplier, previously thought to furnish medical institutions, was unmasked as a grave robber. Despite these startling revelations, Frederickson recalls the anxiety that gripped him, though law enforcers eventually unearthed the truth, delivering due justice. The soldiers dispatched to handle the aftermath were left questioning the destination of these now notorious bodies. Fredericson suggested conventional means of burial, only to be told costs prohibited such closure. What followed was the grim acknowledgment that these beings would be carelessly disposed of rather than respectfully interred. This fraught episode closed with the cadavers' removal, sparing the film's final cut their grim presence, yet leaving Frederickson and the crew with unforgettable memories of one of the most bizarre challenges from a famously doomed production.
