Together with a local contractor, they carefully disassembled the shed's flooring to safely extract the serpent. This particular Burmese python, a species native to Southeast Asia, appeared to have been either released or escaped into the wild. Despite being non-native to the area, such exotic pets are permitted in New Jersey under specific conditions, provided owners have the appropriate permits. Post-capture, the snake was transported to a veterinary center where an X-ray unveiled that its latest meal was a large opossum. These invasive reptiles pose potential threats to local fauna, prompting wildlife authorities to advocate for responsible pet ownership. Currently housed in a secure environment by a professional handler, the python awaits relocation to a permanent habitat.
